Sports Massage
Thai massage makes an excellent form of sports massage due to the element of stretching that is unique to this modality. At Hatta we combine traditional sports medicine techniques with Thai massage to help athletes achieve peak performance and for relieving sports injuries including muscle and tendon strain. Sports massage, as distinguished from regular massage, focuses more attention on the specific areas of the body that are impacted by each sport. Runners, for example, tend to develop Achilles tendonitis, plantar faciaitis, and ITB syndrome. Tennis players are prone to develop elbow and knee problems, while cyclists suffer from low-back pain, neck problems and wrist strain. Sports massage also differs from regular massage in that cross-fiber work is used in addition to massage along the length of the muscle to release the build up of lactic acid. Sports massage can be beneficial as a part of ongoing training, pre-event, and immediately following big events and competitions. The technique and emphasis is varied accordingly.
Benefits of Sports Massage:
- Improved performance (tense muscles are weak and inefficient)
- Faster recovery from intensive workouts and big events
- Reduced risk of injury (tight muscles and tendons are more prone to injury)
- Management of developing problems so they do not become worse
- Faster recovery from injuries (improved circulation speeds healing)
At Hatta, we have worked with golfers, marathon runners, cyclists, tennis badminton and squash players, skiers, footballers and athletes from other sports.
Head, Neck and Shoulder Massage
This is a therapeutic massage which includes treatment to the upper back, shoulders neck and head. This is particularly relevant for relieving tension in these areas caused by stress of modern living and working practices.
Thai foot massage or reflexology
Reflexology originates from an ancient Chinese system and is based on the notion that there are nerve endings in the soles of the feet that correspond to all of the organs of the body such as the liver, kidney or spleen. This is a holistic treatment which involves gentle and repeated massage of these pressure points which stimulates and detoxifies the internal organs and improves circulation to the problem area. It also helps with water retention problems.
Foot massage begins with a footbath and is done with the fingers, hands and a small wooden dowel dipped in lotion. It involves both the sides and soles of the feet as well as the energy lines (Sen) of the lower leg. It is a relaxing therapy involving gentle foot massage. Imbalances in the body are alleviated by working on these points on the feet, tensions are eased in the whole body.
